Is the nutrient requirement sufficiently covered by a purely plant-based diet?

In principle, taking food supplements is an essential part of a vegan diet, as the production and processing methods for manufacturing vegan staple foods are currently not yet sufficiently adapted to the needs of a vegan diet.

Starting vegan - but how?

Do you want to go plant-based, but don't know exactly where to start? No worries - getting started is easy if you know a few basics.

In our blog, we show you 8 simple tips to help you get started with a vegan diet in a relaxed way.

Here is the link to the article - let's go green! 🌱

Who or what is Billie Green anyway?

Billie Green is more than just a brand - we are an invitation to make the world a better place with a knife and fork.
We launched our first products on the market as a corporate start-up in September 2022 and develop plant-based products that are really something: On bread, in the pan, in between meals - and even on the grill. All 100% plant-based. Everything 100% tasty.
Behind Billie Green is a small, passionate team of around 60 people who work every day to make plant-based nutrition even better, easier and tastier.
Our motivation? We want to show how good plant-based food can taste - so good that you no longer miss animal products. Good for you, good for the climate, good for animal welfare.
Do you want to make a change? Just get started - bite by bite.

Are Billie Green products vegetarian or vegan?

We'll keep it short: everything we offer is vegan.
This means for you - 100% plant-based, 0% animal. And so delicious that you won't miss a thing.

What's next?

We still have a lot planned!
Around every six months, we bring fresh ideas to the shelves - naturally plant-based, naturally delicious. And because we want to develop Billie Green together with you, we keep it as transparent as possible. Trends, feedback, new requests? Bring it on!

Do you have a product in mind that should definitely be in our range? Then write to us - via mail or directly on Instagram (@billie.green). Maybe your suggestion will soon be in the chiller cabinet. 💡✨

Are Billie Green products sustainable?

Sustainability is more than just a buzzword for us. We focus on regionality: the wheat protein, which forms the basis of most of our products, comes entirely from Germany. This allows us to support local agriculture and keep transport distances short.

Plant-based meat alternatives—such as ours—are significantly more sustainable than traditional meat products. For example, water consumption is drastically lower: while one kilogram of beef requires around 15,415 liters of water, plant-based alternatives require significantly less Wikipedia. And according to the Good Food Institute, the water consumption of plant-based meat is on average 72–99% lower than that of conventional meat Wikipedia+1.

The situation is also positive in terms of land use: globally, high-quality plant-based food systems could reduce the amount of agricultural land required by up to 75% theguardian.com+15ourworldindata.org+15The Good Food Institute+15. In the event of a global shift to plant-based nutrition, this means less deforestation, more space for nature—and at the same time enough space to feed everyone time.comWikipedia.

And we're not stopping there: further measures for greater sustainability are already planned. Stay tuned!

Full enjoyment. Without compromise

At Billie Green, it's not just about leaving things out - it's about making things better. Our vegan products are packed with plant-based protein and bring full flavor to your plate. For everyone who wants to snack and eat deliciously while looking after themselves and the environment.
Additives? We hardly need them. Two thirds of our products are completely free from E-numbers such as preservatives, thickeners or artificial colors. And the rest? Only the bare essentials - and we're doing that bit by bit.
Would you like an example? Our Billie Green mortadella is completely carrageenan-free - a real game changer in the chiller cabinet. For you, this means: 100% taste, 0% compromise.

What products does Billie Green offer?

From salami for the sandwich and crispy breakfast bacon to hearty barbecue items and snacks, the Billie Green range has been growing steadily since 2022 and now includes over 15 products. You can find an overview of all products here.

And where can you get all the tasty stuff from Billie Green?

It's simple: you can find Billie Green in chiller cabinets all over Germany - e.g. at Rewe, Edeka, Tegut, Famila, Aldi, Penny, Kaufland or Globus. Many delivery services also have us on their list.

In Austria? Take a look at Billa or Spar. In Luxembourg, Cactus stocks our products. And in Switzerland, we are represented at Migros.

And what about fish?

At the moment, our focus is clearly on plant-based meat and sausage products - because there's still a lot to do. But who knows? We are not ruling out fish alternatives for the future. Stay tuned - there's always something happening at Billie Green. 🐟✨

Why isn't Billie Green available in all markets?

Good question - and the answer is a bit tricky. Even though we have contracts with over 30 retail centers such as Edeka, Rewe & Co., that doesn't automatically mean that Billie Green is available to everyone!

Even if the head office is involved, many individual supermarkets decide for themselves what ends up on their shelves. In concrete terms, this means that you might find our new product at your favorite store in city A - but not (yet) at the same chain in the neighboring town.

And if a retail center doesn't give our products a contract at all, Billie Green won't be on the shelves either - no matter how much the local market wants it. Sounds complicated? Unfortunately, sometimes it is. But we'll keep at it to get even more Billie Green into even more supermarkets. We promise!

Are Billie Green products also suitable for children and pregnant women?

Yes, you can also serve our products to your kids without any worries - and pregnant women can of course also enjoy them. Billie Green is for everyone who wants to enjoy a plant-based diet.

Full enjoyment. Without compromise.

At Billie Green, it's not just about leaving things out - it's about making things better. Our vegan products are packed with plant-based protein and bring full flavor to your plate. For everyone who wants to snack and eat deliciously while looking after themselves and the environment.

Would you like an example? Our Billie Green mortadella is completely carrageenan-free - a real game changer in the chiller cabinet. For you, this means: 100% taste, 0% compromise.

*Additive-free means that we do not add any additives that require an E-number, such as preservatives, artificial colors or thickeners.

What is the shelf life of Billie Green products?

Depending on the product, we guarantee a shelf life of 24 to 28 days after delivery - so plenty of time for snacking, topping, frying and enjoying.
The best thing to do is to take a look at the best-before date on the back of the packaging. And what if it's exceeded? Don't stress - as long as the smell, look and taste are right, you can decide for yourself whether to eat it. Common sense often helps more than any date.

Our own online store? Not yet.

We love our products - but they are small packages of freshness. And shipping chilled goods is no walk in the park logistically: special delivery services, a perfect cold chain, someone has to be at home to receive the goods ... as you can see, it gets complicated quickly.

That's why we don't (yet) have our own online store.
But don't worry - you don't have to miss out on Billie Green! Many of our retail partners such as Picnic, Knuspr or Velivery offer our products online.
👉 Here you can find all online retailers at a glance.

Is the cheese in your Billie Green Vegan Bratwurst Cheese Style vegan?

Yes, of course, our cheese alternative in the Vegan Bratwurst Cheese Style is 100% vegan. And the best thing is that it is made from potato starch, does not contain any E-numbers and is therefore completely free from additives. Plant-based, clever - and really tasty!

What ingredients are used for Billie Green products?

You can find an overview of the ingredients we use here.

What raw material are Billie Green products based on?

The main ingredient in most Billie Green products is wheat gluten. Only the vegan mortadellas are based on rapeseed oil and pea protein. In 2024, we managed to source 100% of the wheat gluten we use from Germany in the interests of short transportation routes and are aiming for the same figure in 2025.

Which allergenic substances are contained in the products?

Billie Green products contain wheat, oats and soy. They may also contain trace elements of eggs, milk and lactose, gluten and mustard. The vegan raw ham also contains soy protein isolate

Are additives used for the Billie Green products?

About two thirds of the products in our range are free from additives. Free from additives means that we do not add any additives that require an E-number (such as preservatives, artificial colors or thickeners). The edible casing of Billie Green Vegan Snacks Salami-Style Classic and Chili contains the additive alginate, but is free from preservatives and artificial colorings. All vegan sausages from Billie Green are free from artificial colors and preservatives.

What is alginate and what is it used for in the product?

Alginate consists of seaweed and kelp and becomes an elastic gel when mixed with water. It has a purely plant-based and natural origin. In the production of our Billie Green Vegan Snacks Salami Style Classic and Billie Green Vegan Snacks Salami Style with Chili, we use alginate as the basis for a vegan casing substitute. This allows us to fill, ferment and dry the snacks in a similar way to traditional salami production. The alginate also contributes to the authentic appearance and bite of our salami style snacks. As part of the product development process, we tested various alternatives to alginate in the sausage casing. One possible alternative was the use of a plastic casing, but this was not an option for ecological reasons. The use of alginate has the advantage that no unnecessary packaging waste is produced and the product has a more natural look and bite.

Alginate is considered a natural substance and is therefore harmless. It is approved for use in organic products, among other things. In medicine, alginate is used as a wound dressing, for example, due to its natural origin and function.

What are the benefits of wheat as a source of protein?

Wheat is one of the oldest known sweet grasses and has therefore been the subject of much research. It makes an important contribution to feeding the world's population and can support a healthy diet thanks to its protein content. In contrast to animal protein sources, Billie Green wheat-based products are completely cholesterol-free. Furthermore, we can easily cultivate wheat in Central Europe, which means short transportation routes and therefore ecological benefits. Wheat protein is therefore ideal as a base ingredient for vegan products.

The protein content of Billie Green products is between 22 and 36 percent, which is significantly higher than that of most competitors. Fun fact: the protein content of Billie Green products often even exceeds that of classic sausage products.

Are there plans to use other protein sources for the meat alternatives in the future?

In principle, we are open to any form of protein source and can imagine using other plant-based raw materials in addition to wheat gluten, mung bean concentrate, potato protein, faba bean protein, soy protein and pea concentrate in the future. Our research and development team is constantly trying out new things - always under the premise that our high standards of quality, texture, taste and ingredients are met.

Our claim

PLANTY WITH A WOW FACTOR

Plant-based can do everything: good for you, good for the environment - and damn tasty. But Billie Green can do more than just delicious: high protein content in every product and the goal of being completely additive-free. We already achieve this with most of our products. For the few exceptions, we are going full throttle until they are also 100% clean.
